On her favorite artists... As far as visual art goes, I totally love anything
post modern, which means the stuff that's all squiggles and squares and white canvases
with cool dots in the middle. Check out some other people too, like David
Hockney or Andy Warhol. Who knew soup cans could look cool? Now, as to
music, I like a wide range of stuff. I enjoy Japanese music, and as far
as bands go, I listen to people like Tori Amos and other alt bands who
change members every week or so. My current favorites are Vinnie's
Ear (punk, from Seattle) and the Rabid Parrots from Lima, Ohio. They are
all over the internet. Check them out.
On poetry... Poetry is my life. At least, it was my whole
life until I got involved with Shelby and Becca. I used to sit in my room
and write poems for hours on end, and I never showed them to anyone because
I was embarrassed. I guess my favorite thing about writing poetry is that
I can express the inner darkness that lurks behind my wholesome exterior.
I'm all about free verse and
alternative forms. Forget that rhyming crap. People look at me and think "All-American
girl" and I'm so not that. I have black hole in the
middle of my soul that can only be filled with art. And chocolate, if there's
no art around.
Sample poems... Printer Cartridge
You glare at me, with one empty copper-plated
eye
A last single drop of precious fluid lingers
As magenta, cyan, black, yellow, all evaporate
Leaving nothing but colorless existence.
The Serpent in my Heart
A green-eyed creature
Scaled, smooth, silver-verdant
Slides within and coils itself
In tintinnabulations of reptile clarity
Around the cold-blooded rock that is my heart
And it bites.
Crisp Celery on a Sunday Morning
Great
stalks of earth's bounty
Rising in the ranch dip like pillars of greatness
Oh, fibrous ropes of gut-cleansing fiber!
I eat of you, like an appetizer sacrament
Bless me, celery
Most Likely to Create Great Art from Macaroni: Amber’s style is semi-Goth, although not to an extreme. She considers
herself a poet, and has gone through her black clothing phases. She reads a
lot and considers herself more intellectual than most teenagers, and dates
tortured artsy boys almost exclusively. She considers herself to be very talented;
just read her poetry, and you’re sure to agree!
Donnie Darko... My favorite film. It’s very dark, and I love how it bends time and space and makes you question whether you really exist or not. Plus, I am absolutely in love with the metal rabbit costume in the movie. Jake Gyllenhaal is awesome, and if he were at my school, I would absolutely stalk him.
Tori Amos... Only the most awesome songwriter in recorded history. Her music is transcendental, and her lyrics are absolutely stunning. I am trying to get in touch with her, because I read a book about this psychotic woman with multiple personalities who was called Rabbit, and I wanted to know if Tori’s song Cornflake Girl was about that book.
Snickers... Actually, most people think I’m a candy snob, and I sort of am, but Snickers really do satisfy. If I can’t get my hands on some chili-pepper Guatemalan cacao, a chomp on a peanut-caramel-nougatty goodness Snickers will do the trick until I can get to more elegant stuff. Sort of a life raft of decadence.
Sarcastic 8-ball... Some people use tarot cards or astrology to plan their lives, but I much prefer the Sarcastic 8-Ball, mean cousin of the Original Magic 8-Ball. If you ask the ball a question, the answer will be something like
"Yeah, right" or "Only in your dreams." I don't use it to plan my day or anything, but I do love to let other people use it and then look all heartbroken when the 8-ball dashes their dreams. It’s made of plastic, for God’s sake! Get a life!
Edgar Allan Poe action figure... Edgar Allan Poe…my hero. So tortured, so pale, so good in black. He is everything that life is not—romantic, mysterious, and terminally depressed. Okay, well, maybe life is terminally depressed, or at least terminally depressing. But Edgar finds ways to re-create the horror of human existence in a fun, sensible way. My action figure comes with a removeable quill pen and a raven that pecks at stuff.
Panic at the Disco (band)... Only the most artistic band played today. And I love this album cover. I look to it for inspiration, and to scare other kids.
Goth girl pic... Oh, I wish I were this tragic and consumptive. I am far too tan to be truly hip, even though I avoid the sun like the plague and try very hard to keep from freckling. Damn my Cherokee genes!
